Facebook is down for the third time in less than two weeks [Update: It’s back!]

Alright, something wonky is definitely going on at Facebook HQ. The social network is down for the third time in less than two weeks.

Currently, multiple users are receiving a “something went wrong” error when attempting to visit the site. Others simply see a blank page that reads “service unavailable.”

The first outage occurred on September 17, and the second one on September 24. While the outages didn’t last very long, it’s very unusual to have so many of them concentrated around a relatively brief time period.

In both cases the outages lasted less than 30 minutes, so hopefully this one is just as brief . Update 3:36 PM ET: It’s been over 35 minutes, so no luck there. We’ve contacted the company for more information and will update this post if we hear back.

Update 3:57 PM ET: Facebook seems to be slowly returning; users are reporting they can connect to the site again, although some of us at team TNW are still unable to access the network. We  imagine it will be up and running normally soon.

Still, this is the longest of the recent outages so far.

Update 4:13 PM ET: A Facebook spokesperson said:

“We’re currently restoring Facebook services that people had trouble accessing earlier today due to a configuration issue. We’re working to bring things back to normal for everyone. We apologize to those who have been inconvenienced.”

Update: 4:48 PM ET: Service appears to be back to normal. Carry on.
